The latest type of industrial flooring getting recognition these days is Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic or FRP grating, used in various industries and purposes, such as walkways, floors, etc. Due to its high durability and longevity, this industrial-strength material is highly preferred when constructing any new infrastructure.

What is FRP Grating?

While constructing any building or commissioning other projects – industrial or residential – flooring is one of the essential aspects of producing a structure that can last generation after generation. It is highly durable and robust as it is made from resin's amalgamation; resin's properties effectively make FRP resistant to corrosion while fiberglass makes it strong. The flooring material from it can be safely used in environments that can be considered high-risk, such as factories and other such establishments.

Types of FRP Gratings

The FRP Gratings are primarily of two types having different features –

  • Moulded FRP grating: It is made from vertical and horizontal layers molded into a mesh of resin and fiberglass to give it the desired shape to be used in flooring and other structures. Due to its strength, FRP grating can be cut out without the additional reinforcement to give room to the pipes or navigate through the flooring.
  • Pultruded FRP grating: It is made by combining resin and fiberglass as they undergo numerous steps to infuse them into making a new type of material. It is flexible and can be made into different shapes and sizes; it also has more strength to bear pressure and remain unchanged/ undamaged.

Common FRP Grating Products

The FRP grating is robust, resistant to corrosion, and lightweight, making it a good option for   hazardous environments. Some of the familiar places and products that use FRP gratings are -

· Ladders

· Pool decks

· Bridges

· Ramps

· Protective shielding

· Commercial flooring

· Drain Covers

· Jetties

· Walkways

· Ramps

· Stairs

· Wash Bays

· Track crossings

· Ships

· Oil rigs

· Factories

· Construction sites

Benefits of FRP Grating

FRP grating is durable, can withstand corrosion, remains unaffected in a harsh environment with high heat or fire, is highly affordable, and needs low maintenance. It is a poor conductor of electricity, hence safe to use in an electrically hazardous environment. Its flexibility yet durability makes it easy to cut and adjust for the flooring.
